🍉 Sweet treats right off the vine

Sweetness is the theme of the week here at Acorn Acres Farm! Stop by for sweet corn, vine ripened melons of multiple varieties including yellow watermelon and sugar sweet mini cantaloupe, juicy heirloom tomatoes, and more! We are grateful for the recent rains allowing these fresh fruits and vegetables to ripen just in time to keep you refreshed in the summer heat. 

Pre-order online to secure your favorite produce along with grass-fed pastured meat and dairy or stop by Wednesday-Saturday and see what the store has in stock.  

Produce

This week’s fresh harvest includes a delicious variety of local, seasonal options! As always, if you can't make it in until Saturday, please put a pre-order in so that we can either reserve some of the harvest from earlier in the week or harvest again and have it waiting fresh for you.

  • Beets! Big, beautiful tops included!!

  • Blueberries (frozen)

  • Broccoli (florets) 

  • Cabbage (green or purple)—If you're trying to can or make sauerkraut, order ahead and we'll try to offer bulk for the weeks to come!! 

  • Cantaloupe (mini, goddess, and aphroditis)

  • Cauliflower

  • Cherry Tomatoes

  • Cucumbers—Enjoy an added crunch to your healthy salads with this delicious addition to any meal! 

  • Custard Squash—tastes as great as it sounds!

  • Eggplant

  • Garlic

  • Green and Sweet Pepper Varieties â€”Banana, Bell, Poblano, Shishito, and more

  • Green and Yellow Wax Beans

  • Heirloom Tomatoes—Many colors, flavors and varieties, it's that time of the season!!

  • Herbs—Fresh basil, celery, chives, cilantro, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, sage, and some surprises!! Many dried options! 

  • Hot Pepper Varieties—jalapeno, sugar rush, chili's, etc.

  • Kale

  • Kohlrabi (also called "German Turnip" or "Turnip Cabbage")—this delicious vegetable is a low glycemic index food and is said to help improve metabolism while aiding with weight loss. However you cut it, we think it adds a crispy addition to any raw salad or as a nice change to a warm, mashed option.

  • Leeks 

  • Lettuce (whole heads or leaf)—The heads are full, long-lasting, and have a delicious crunch while the leaf lettuce is a delicious mix.

  • Mushrooms—hope to have some fresh chantrelles this week and maybe some other varieties. We also carry dried Maitake and shiitake options (caps or sliced)!! 

  • Onions â€”some dried and some green, amazing flavor in any dish!

  • Patty Pans—delicious summer squash! French name, pâtisson, derives from a Provençal word for a cake made in a scalloped mould. Versatile for any meal!

  • Potatoes—medium to large Red Nolans, Purple, and Kennebec!! Fresh dug . . . amazing flavor! 

  • Shallots

  • Sweet Corn—young and tender!

  • Sweet Potatoes

  • Swiss Chard

  • Watercress

  • Watermelon—yellow and may some minis!!

  • Zucchini—yellow, zebra, and other varieties (petite and tender)!

    As always, our produce is GMO-free and grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides — and we make sure it stays that way, even for crops that are tricky to grow naturally! 

Dairy & Eggs

This week’s options include:

  • Grass-fed cow's milk, butter (limited supply—and more of the Small Acres 8 oz tubs than the Kalona), buttermilk, cheese (Caciocavallo, cottage, GGC sharp cheddar, semi-soft, washed rind cheese, traditional tomme, semi-firm, smear-ripened, Alpine style premium reserves and a variety of others), French Dip, Kefir (plain), sour cream, yogurt (plain & vanilla), and whipping cream!

  • Chicken & Duck eggs! If you must have and can't make it in until Saturday, please pre-order so that we can reserve at least 1 dozen! We can rarely reserve more than a dozen at a time, but you are welcome to ask, and we will try!

  • Beef Grill Options: Ground Beef, Ground Chuck, and Ground Round, Suet (for getting your skillet hot, with flavor), and more! We're also carrying The Brooklyn Hot Dog Company dogs: All Beef or Beef & Pork! 

  • Beef Stew & Organ Meat Options: Soup Bones, Stew and Organ Meats! Respect the whole animal and enjoy the health benefits! Ask our team what makes the organ meats so special!

  • Chicken (frozen for the season): Whole and Cut-ups (breasts—currently boneless/skinless only, leg quarters, thighs—boneless or bone-in options, and wings), Ground Chicken, Soup Bones (necks and backs) and Organ Meats (liver & gizzards). Try our yummy Mild Chicken Italian Sausage!!
