An update from our pastured pigs đŸ·

These pigs sure do live a great life! Our pigs were just moved from one of their wooded enclosures to a fresh new pasture where they’re free to root around and engage in all their funny pig-like behavior. This slow-raised approach allows them to graze, forage and grow naturally, enjoying seasonal acorns, walnuts, and mulberries, along with organic feed — including oats from our farm.

Raising pastured pigs in a forested rotation is good for the animals, good for the land, and results in more flavorful nutritious meat for you! Come by the farm store Wednesday through Saturday to browse our new pasture-raised meat and farm-fresh produce. See you soon!

Produce

This week’s fresh harvest includes a delicious variety of local, seasonal options! As always, if you can't make it in until Saturdayplease put a pre-order in so that we can either reserve some of the harvest from earlier in the week or harvest again and have it waiting fresh for you.

  • Beets! 

  • Blueberries (frozen)

  • Broccoli

  • Cabbage (green or purple)

  • Carrots

  • Cherry Tomatoes

  • Eggplant—many varieties (including those with few seeds)!

  • Garlic

  • Grapes (Concord, Green or Pink Niagara, and Wild Varieties)— fresh off the vine or frozen (destemmed) options! All with seeds (great in smoothies for optimal health benefits)

  • Green Onions

  • Green or Red Bell Peppers and other Sweet Pepper Varieties â€” rare finds!

  • Green, Yellow, and Purple Beans (bush, filet, and vine varieties

  • Heirloom Tomatoes—Many colors and varieties! Our heirloom paste tomatoes are great for making your favorite sauces, pastes, and for eating! Don't miss the season for eating and storing fresh and nutritious tomato flavors!

  • Herbs—Fresh chives, mint, oregano, parsley, sage, thyme, and some surprises!! Many dried options! 

  • Hot Pepper Varieties—Cubanelle (more sweet than hot but with a touch of heat), chili, jalapeño, poblano, serrano, shishito, sugar rush, Thai, and additional chili varieties

  • Kale

  • Leeks

  • Lettuce (whole heads and mixed leaf)—The heads are full, long-lasting, and have a delicious crunch. The leaf lettuce comes in a mixed variety!

  • Okra

  • Onions â€”another week of Candy onions, white, "red" (purple), and longkeepers!

  • Potatoes—medium to large Purple, Red Nolans, Kennebecs, and Yukon Golds!! Fresh dug . . . amazing flavor! 

  • Pumpkins and other Winter Squash varieties including winter luxury pumpkins, honey boat delicata, honey nut butternut and full-size butternut, green and cream acorn, and spaghetti squash. Note: the creamy acorn is officially called the "Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato Winter Squash" and has thick orange-gold flesh. Stock up on this and all squash to deliver your potassium punch of the day!

  • Red of Florence, Onion—with green tops or dried like shallots! These oblong, bright red onions have a lot in common with shallots. The red bulbs are packed with anthocyanin, a healthful antioxidant. They are very mild and sweet, great for salads and pickling. A delicious Italian heirloom. Very rare. And, we only have enough to offer for 1 more week! Enjoy them while they last!

  • Red Mustard Greens

  • Shiitake—Fresh, Local, and Organically grown on oak logs!

  • Swiss Chard

  • Watermelon—multiple varieties and flavors! Now including both seeded and seedless (smaller volleyball sizes up to large and extra-large)! Lots of positive feedback about how sweet and tasty these are!

    As always, our produce is GMO-free and grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides — and we make sure it stays that way, even for crops that are tricky to grow naturally!
